Preparing to Launch

The Black Hills beckon.  Tomorrow we start a three-day drive to Deadwood, South Dakota, where we will begin a seven-day gravel bike ride on the famous Mickelson Trail, a 109 mile rail-to-trail between Deadwood and Edgemont.  With almost 100 trestles, four hard rock tunnels, and diverse ecosystems, it promises to be great ride, notwithstanding the likelihood of some rain.  We plan to ride the trail both directions.

After that, we begin a longer return route back to Olympia, by way of Jackson, Wyoming, to southern Idaho where we will undertake a five day ride on the less tamed Weiser River Trail that runs 84 miles between Weiser and just outside of New Meadows, Idaho.  This round-trip ride on a National Recreation Trail is a bit more rugged, but one that has been on our “must-ride” list since 2015.

We also hope to take a few more short rides along the way to and from Deadwood.  Stay tuned!

Our bikes are packed and ready to go in our recently acquired 2013 Transit Connect.
